Final Table
Final Table
Seat 1: Allen McCauley – 1,522,000
Allen McCauley, from Belfast, has been playing regularly for four years. He cashed last year in the UKIPT Nottingham main event, winning the £300 side event the same week for good measure. By profession a “joiner, carpenter, builder,” McCauley, 45, is a great fan of the game of poker, but considers himself to be “a card player, not a gambler.”
McCauley intends to “play a tight game,” on the final table as he describes he generally does, to profitable effect, and will be heading to Dublin for his next UKIPT appearance.
Seat 2: Peter Burnett – 477,000
Live poker is Peter Burnett’s background, although he initially became interested in playing through his nephew who introduced him to the online game. Burnett, from Northern Ireland, graduated from freerolls to the Fitz in Dublin, where he has played for two years. He has been entering main events this year, consistently making deep runs, although when it comes to titles, “I haven’t got over the line yet!”
Burnett said that the UKIPT offered a good structure, allowing plenty of opportunity for players: “There’s more skill in it,” he said, before summing up his Final Table strategy as, “Bring my best.”
Seat 3: Martin Muslow – 1,878,000
After becoming interested in poker through watching it on TV in 2008, 24 year old German student Martin Muslow started playing sit’n’gos with friends and has moved on to become an online regular. He has already qualified for UKIPT Newcastle on PokerStars and enjoys travelling, meeting new people and seeing new places on the poker circuit. When not studying German and philosophy, his regular game remains online and “good structure” is what attracts him to the UKIPT for a dose of live poker.
Seat 4: Adam Jaguscik – 886,000
Adam Jaguscik is a full-time poker professional from Warsaw, Poland. He first stumbled across the game when betting on football some five years ago, "I thought, this looks interesting and decided to give it go." Since then he hasn't looked back. Although he has scored a couple of minor live cashes, Jaguscik says that his poker is almost exclusively online but given a good result here today that could all change. He states that the five words summing up a successful final table player would be, “Aggressive, patient, observant, calm, and lucky.”
Seat 5: David O’Connor – 629,000
This €500 UKIPT Main Event is David O’Connor’s first live tournament, and having made the final table is guaranteed at least €6,900 here in Cork. The 28 year old Dublin resident is no stranger to poker, however, having played regularly since college and enjoying a professional stint online for two years before returning to his first love of software developing. From freerolls to full-time play (heads up and 6-max cash games) and back, O’Connor now has one of the best personal training systems at the final table.
“Max Silver is my mind coach,” he said, “And Nick Abou Risk is my spiritual guide.” When asked to sum up his medium-stack strategy at the final table, O’Connor allowed Silver to answer for him: “Eye. Of. The. Tiger.”
Seat 6: Sam Razavi – 2,013,000
Sam Razavi, 30, discovered poker five years ago in his previous job as an actor while touring the north of England – a fellow actor starting the 30 year old Brighton resident on his way to his current success both live and online. This year he won over $220,000 after making the final table at the Aussie Millions, but insists that his strategy on the final will be “to do the opposite of what I did in Australia!” He enjoys the atmosphere and structure of the UKIPT and after spending the summer in Las Vegas will be back playing online.
Seat 7: Jamie Flynn – 504,000
Jamie Flynn, 19, from Limerick, started playing cards with his gran but progressed as a student into the world of Texas Hold’em. He considers the UKIPT to be a great training-ground for the whole European circuit: “It’s a professional tournament with a good structure, good buy-in. It’s great to get experience on the UKIPT.” His next tournament will be online, however, in a SCOOP event this week. In five words, his final table plan is: “run very very very well.”
Seat 8: Chris Dowling – 822,000
Chris Dowling is no stranger to UKIPT final tables – he came 6th in the Nottingham leg back in February for £19,050. The 32 year old Kildare resident has been playing for around four years, nowadays travelling with the UKIPT because of the field sizes and structure of the events. Dowling has a string of cashes to his name stretching back to 2007, including a runner up spot in the Irish Poker Championship in 2009 for €90,000. His next poker game will be online – “Tuesday night when I get home!”
